On June 26 Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations met with David Diaz-Jogeix, Deputy Director of Europe and Central Asia of Amnesty International organization and coordinator Natalia Nozadze.

Welcoming the guests, Artak Zakaryan highlighted the activity of the organization having international role in the establishment and development of human rights and democratic institutes. Talking about the reforms made the Committee Chairman said that during the last years Armenia had achieved big success in the spheres of human rights and freedoms, free activity of the mass media, manifestation of public-political activeness. It was noted that the human rights sphere continued to remain in the center of attention of the RA authorities. Emphasizing the cooperation with the NGOs, Artak Zakaryan said that the parliament of the fourth convocation had memorandum with more than 100 NGOs, according to which, their representatives were taking part in the sittings of the standing committees, parliamentary hearings, were making different proposals, furthering issues regarding human rights and freedoms. In the parliament of this convocation it is also envisaged to actively work with organizations of civil society.

David Diaz-Jogeix said that the goal of the visit to Armenia was to study the spheres of human rights and freedom of speech.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations noted that they were ready to cooperate and expressed hope that the studies of the international organization on Armenia would be open and truthful. Artak Zakaryan also proposed to study the problems concerning the sphere of human rights in non-recognized states.

Other issues were also discussed in the meeting.
